Metal Beam Crash Barrier Quality Control and Test Certificates
The documentation that accompanies a compliant metal beam crash barrier — mill test certificates, coating reports and dimensional records — and what each proves.
Mill test certificate (material). Confirms the rail and post steel conforms to IS 2062 (grade E250 / Fe410 typical) — yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and chemistry. This is the evidence that the steel will deform predictably on impact rather than tear. Ideally it is traceable to the coil or heat number.
Coating-mass report (galvanising). Confirms the hot-dip galvanised zinc coating meets the 550 g/m² minimum per IS 4759 / IS 2629. Low coating mass is a leading cause of rejection, so this report is scrutinised, especially for coastal corridors.
Dimensional records. Confirm rail thickness (3 mm nominal, 2.67 mm on some specs), profile, panel length (4.32 m), post section (e.g. ISMC 150x75) and hole patterns against the drawing. Under-thickness or off-profile material is a straightforward failure.
Inspection regime. Projects may specify factory inspection, third-party inspection, or site sampling. Knowing which applies — and preparing the documents and samples for it — avoids delays at dispatch and at site.
Honest framing. A manufacturer supplies material to grade, geometry and coating, evidenced by these certificates. It does not 'self-approve' its product; acceptance rests with the project's inspection authority against the tender specification.
